Angus Finney

International Creative Consultant

Dr Angus Finney is a leading international film and creative industry specialist. His work includes MBA-level teaching at The Judge Business School, Cambridge University and Cass Business School, City University, London.  He also advises film funds and executive produces films, staying close to the film market and new trends and digital developments.

For three years Finney was a risk manager and media advisor for Octopus Media, part of Octopus Investments – a £1.5bn City of London fund manager. Since 2013, he has also worked as an expert witness in a £200m case and most recently a £1bn level court case on film tax evasion. Finney was appointed Course Director for the Exeter University/London Film School MA in International Film Business in September 2014.

Finney’s UK training and industry mentoring includes working with Creative Skillset, Creative England, Film Agency Wales, Film London and the Film Distributors Association; and his professional development work has extended to South Africa, Ireland, UAE, Canada and over the last three years has delivered the International Training and Development Programme in association with SPADA in New Zealand.   

Finney also has considerable practical entrepreneurial and management experience: He was appointed joint Managing Director of Renaissance Films, a UK-based development, production, financing and sales company in July 1999, taking over sole MD responsibilities in 2002 before the company ceased trading in July 2005. He has financed and sold films across the globe, and worked with A-List talent including Daniel Craig, Glenn Close, Emily Watson, Terry Gilliam, Neil LaBute, Peter Cattaneo, Willem Defoe, Paul Bettany, Killian Murphy, et al. During that time he worked with all the major Hollywood Studios, Miramax, IFC, and major international film distributors.

A second edition of Finney’s fourth book "The International Film Business – A Market Guide Beyond Hollywood" (Routledge) was published in 2014.  Finney completed a PhD in Business Strategy from Cass Business School, City University London in 2015: has an MA from New York University, (Phi Beta Kappa); a post-graduate Diploma from City University; and a BA from Sussex University in International Relations.
