Screen Sector Practitioners in New Year's Honours
Congratulations to all those recognised for their service and achievements in the New Year's Honours list. There are so many wonderful people on this list, and of course there are a couple who we in the screen sector celebrate most of all:
John Barnett, who has delivered so many successful films and series during his 45 year career in the industry including Whale Rider, Sione's Wedding and Shortland Street. John was also the head of South Pacific Pictures for 23 years, and as a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit he has no plans to stop making screen stories.
Bill Gosden, whose work at the helm of the New Zealand International Film Festival has spanned decades, and whose love and passion has supported so many New Zealand films and filmmakers to find their audience. Bill was also the recipient of the 2019 SPADA Databook Industry Champion where the standing ovation he received was a testament to the respect and aroha he enjoys from the screen sector, so we're chuffed to see Bill made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Gerben Cath, filmmaker and the founder of Arcadian Films, who has been part of multiple films, series, and advertisements over several decades. Gerben was also the founder and co-director of South Seas Film & Television School where he supported over 900 graduates to enter the screen industry. Gerben has been made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition for his work.
A special mention also goes to Parris Goebel, choreographer and star of music videos for some of the most prominent musicans in the world including Janet Jackson and Rihanna. Parris has directed her own music videos, as well as directing and producing music videos for Ciara and Justin Bieber, and has been made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition for her work.
