New Public Media Entity Announced - RNZ / TVNZ to Merge
Rāpare, 10 Poutū-te-rangi / Thursday, 10 March 2022Minister for Broadcasting and Media, Kris Faafoi, has announced the plan to create a new Autonomous Crown Entity which will see RNZ and TVNZ merge.
Minister Faafoi said "the Government will create a new organisation by the middle of next year, built on the best of RNZ and TVNZ, to future-proof public media for New Zealanders for decades to come."

The new entity will have a strong and legislated public focus.

It will receive both crown funding and commercial returns.

It will be an autonomous Crown Entity, with complete operational and editorial independence.
An Establishment Board will be appointed next month to oversee the detailed design of the entity and the change process, with the aim of having it operational by 1 July 2023.
