International Border: Reopening Dates Announced

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Tourism Minister Stuart Nash have announced the following dates for reopening travel with the following locations:

  • The New Zealand border is currently open to all New Zealanders from around the world, and Critical and Skilled Workers
  • The border will be open to fully vaccinated Australians from 11.59 pm on 12 April 2022
  • Fully vaccinated travellers from visa-waiver countries, and fully vaccinated current Visa holders, will be able to enter New Zealand from 11.59pm on 1 May 2022
  • Travel from the rest of the world will likely be brought forward from 1 October 2022, with details to be announced in coming months.
  • All Fully Vaccinated Travellers will not need to isolate on arrival, but will need to provide a pre-departure test and take two RATs on day 0/1 and day 5/6, which is the case for all arrivals at the border.

Prime Minister Ardern also stated that the government is taking another look at settings within the Covid Protection Framework, vaccine passes and mandates, and these are likely to change once we come off the peak of cases, and signalled we can expect an announcement on the COVID Protection Framework next week
