Vaccinated Travellers Will No Longer Need to Self-Isolate


In today's Post-Cabinet update Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced:

  • New Zealand's border is now open to vaccinated New Zealand citizens and residents and other eligible travellers from Australia.
  • Fully vaccinated travellers from Australia will no longer need to self-isolate from 11.59PM, Wednesday, 2 March 2022.
  • Fully vaccinated New Zealanders (and other eligible travellers as noted in Step Two) from anywhere in the world no longer need to self-isolate from 11.59PM, Friday, 4 March 2022 (previously 13 March).
  • All incoming travellers will still be required to provide a negative pre-departure test within 48 hours prior to departure.
  • All incoming travellers will still be required to undertake a rapid antigen test (RAT) within the first 24 hours after arriving, and on day 5/6 after arrival.
  • Any traveller who tests positive will be required to meet the same isolation criteria as community cases (currently ten days isolation).
  • Unvaccinated travellers, and those who do not meet New Zealand’s vaccination requirements, who are eligible to enter New Zealand will continue to enter MIQ.
  • Cabinet will also consider bringing Other Steps in the reopening plan forward.
