Face coverings on public transport in Auckland and on all domestic flights
From 11:59pm on Wednesday 18 November, face coverings legally must be worn:

  • on all public transport to, from and through Auckland — including on long-distance bus and train journeys, as well as Auckland ferries
  • on domestic flights throughout New Zealand
  • by Auckland taxi and ride-share drivers — while it’s not compulsory for passengers to wear them, we strongly encourage you to.

Auckland will move to Alert Level 2 with no extra restrictions at 11:59pm on Wednesday 23 September. This means people in Auckland will be able to attend social gatherings, funerals and tangihanga in groups of up to 100 people.  You legally must wear a face covering when travelling into, from or through Auckland on public transport or aircraft.

Living at Alert Level 2 / Current Alert Level: Rest of New Zealand is in Alert Level 2, and will move to Alert Level 1 at 11:59pm on Monday 21 September.
