John Barnett has over forty years experience in the screen sector and a career which has incorporated film and TV production, film + video distribution, artist management, establishing multiplexes, and building entertainment businesses.
With films such as Whale Rider, Footrot Flats and Sione’s Wedding among his credits John has produced several of New Zealand’s top grossing films. As the former owner and Chief Executive of South Pacific Pictures, which counts Shortland Street and Outrageous Fortune among a long list of local drama, John’s prolific workload has resulted in 98.5% of the New Zealand population having seen a programme produced by him. Currently working as an independent Producer with a slate of movies and tv series, John is also actively involved with a range of charitable and industry organisations.
John Barnett is the winner of multiple awards including a BAFTA and AFI Best Foreign Film, and in 2003 John was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for Services to the Film Industry.
